Individual Advocacy
A strong voice for those with IDD
There are times when individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) may need assistance in navigating challenges in their lives of which they cannot resolve on their own. The purpose of the Individual Advocacy Program (IA) is to offer help as needed, through support, information, and referral, to those with IDD in order to foster individual growth, empowerment, and autonomy.
IA specifically serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our team of advocates is made of social workers, former direct support professionals, and self advocates with firsthand experience in navigating the complex service system. Advocates provide one-to-one assistance to individuals with IDD to address challenges and empower them to make their own decisions and find their own solutions.
We can help with The Arc’s programs and services, Developmental Disabilities Administration, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, guardianship and alternatives, future planning, ABLE savings and special needs trusts, representative payees, housing, assistive technology, service animals, medical equipment, social and recreational activities in the community, workshops and trainings, self-advocacy, respite options, Social Security benefits, caregiving services, volunteer opportunities, veteran services, sexual abuse, etc.
Here’s some of the feedback we’ve received about the Individual Advocacy Program:
“You guys are wonderful! Very kind and helpful. I feel like I'm not alone. Thank you very much!”
“You guys are amazing. You have a resource for everything I have come across so far. I know when I call you, that you will be able to help.”
“I will definitely reach out again with questions!”
“We requested information on the options for Special Needs Trust in Washington State. The advocate provided links to state sponsored accounts, as well as a list of local attorneys. We were able to access both resources, thank you.”
