Advocacy

The Arc of Spokane's core purpose is to advocate for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Volunteers are a critical component of this function, taking a leadership role in planning and organizing our advocacy effort. Opportunities include:

The Arc Community Center
The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and offers people with developmental disabilities an opportunity to meet and socialize, learn new skills, and explore our community. Volunteers might teach crafts, interact with constituents socially and recreationally or accompany them on day trips in the community. Volunteer opportunities include:

Community Access
Community Access invites people with developmental disabilities into our community through regular outings, volunteer work, classes or social events. Additionally, our Person to Person program helps individuals who are able prepare for employment through hands-on training, on-site observation, and job volunteering, helping them secure long-term employment and greater independence. Volunteer opportunities include:

Fundraising
The Arc is a non-profit, 501(c)3 orgainzation. We actively seek charitable contributions to help fund our advocacy and family support programs and The Arc Community Center. Volunteers play a key role in our fundraising efforts by telling our story to potential donors and asking for their financial support. Contact Development Director Brian Holloway at (509) 328-6326 or bholloway@arc-spokane.org for more information.

Membership

As a grassroots organization, we need a strong, active and large group of members to work together to make life better for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Volunteers on our Membership Campaign Team recruit at least one new member for The Arc each month and help us develop effective policies, practices and materials that promote the success of the membership campaign. Contact Brian Holloway at (509) 328-6326 or bholloway@arc-spokane.org for more information.

Homeownership Opportunities

The Arc's Homeownership Opportunities program helps people with developmental disabilities and their families realize the dream of homeownership, providing stable and affordable housing to those who can and want to live independently. Our program specialists guide participants thorugh the complex process of home buying, providing education in topics such as budgeting, credit management and home maintenance. Volunteer opportunities include:

Program Evaluation

The Arc's six program evaluation teams develop service standards and evaluate service outcomes in our six program areas. Volunteers make up the majority of the members on each of these teams. Contact Brian Holloway at (509) 328-6326 or bholloway@arc-spokane.org for more information.

Research

Our four research action teams develop recommendations about how we can significantly improve the quality of our constituents' experience in the areas of housing, education, social inclusion and employment. Volunteers make up the majority of the members of each of these teams. Contact Lance Morehouse at (509) 328-6326 or lmorehouse@arc-spokane.org for more information.

Residential Services

Our residential services program assists 42 adult men and women with developmental disabilities in seven homes throughout Spokane. While our residents enjoy active lives working or participating in the community, many thrive on the company of regular friends who can teach crafts or dancing, sing, read a favorite book, take a walk or play a game. Other opportunities might include yard-work, painting, or making minor home repairs. Volunteer opportunities include:
