Residential Support

Not long ago there were few alternatives for parents no longer able to care for their adult son or daughter with a developmental disability. Asking a family member to care for them or sending them to an institution seemed to be the only options. That's why The Arc of Spokane, working closely with parents, established a program of community living that offers adults with developmental disabilities a home of their own and a future rich with choice, opportunity and companionship.

Our Residential Support program provides round-the-clock assistance to 43 adult men and women with developmental disabilities who live as house-mates in privately-owned homes throughout Spokane. Whether helping cook a meal, encouraging a talent or helping plan a vacation, our support staff promotes independence by providing support when support is needed.

We've found that an active lifestyle with plenty of new experiences enhances our constituents' social, mental and physical health. That's why we offer a wide variety of activities at home and in the community. Click the link below to see picture of some of our latest activities.

Constituents of our Residential Support program receive funding for supported living services from Washington's Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). To find out if your son or daughter qualifies for these services, contact a representative of DSHS at (509) 456-3117.
