What does "Arc" mean?

"Arc" doesn't stand for anything anymore.  Years ago, "ARC" (all capitals) was an acronym for the "Assocation for Retarded Citizens".  But abuse of the word "retarded" prompted us to change the name from an acronym to simply "The Arc" (capital "A", lower case "r" and "c"). 

The correct way to write our name is The Arc (not The ARC).
