The Parternership: Helping Make Spokane Safe for People with Developmental Disabilities

"We all deserve to be safe" is the motto of The Arc of Spokane's Partnership program which works for the prevention of sexual assault and exploitation of people with developmental disabilities.  Activities include educational presentations, safety rallies, a community resource fair. We also publish a free 72 page resource guide.

Safety Rally

We all deserve to be safe!  That's why The Partnership holds a safety rally at the STA Plaza each year promoting personal safety for people with developmental disabilities.  Guest speakers, personal safety demonstrations, booths, music and prizes make this event both fun and educational.

Girl Group
The Partnership has just completed its first Eduational Support group!  High school students participating in Spokane Public School's Community Images program learned important facts about anotomy, relationships and personal safety.  They also had lots of fun!

Community Education
One of the goals of The Partnership is to educate people about the unique challenges that people with developmental disabilities face when it comes to sexuality and personal safety.  To date, The Partnership has helped the following groups:

  • The Spokane County Resource Fair
  • People First (Spokane Conference)
  • The Long-term Care Ombudsman Program
  • The Division of Developmental Disabilities Adult Family Home Providers
  • The Senior Parent Support Group (The Arc of Spokane)
  • Aging and Long-term Care In-home Care Provider Training
  • The Spokane Police Department

If you would like The Partnership to present at your group's event, contact Theresa Fears at (509) 328-6326 or tfears@arc-spokane.org.
