Parents, Advocates and Friends Rally against Tropic Thunder

Thanks to all who helped educate the public at our Educational Rallies on August 13, 14, and 15 at Riverpark Square in Spokane!  We had good turnouts at all of the rallies, handed out hundreds of flyers explaining why the film was objectionable and spoke to many supportive people.

It's not an easy thing for regular people like us to stand in the blistering sun holding signs and handing out leaflets, but we felt that we had to speak out for people with intellectual disabilities in our community.  If we don't, nobody will.

When school starts up again in September, we don't want our children, siblings and friends subjected to abusive language and treatment because of a tag line in a summer movie.

And it looks like we've made a difference.  The Paramount / DreamWorks executive in charge of marketing for Tropic Thunder has left the company, and revenues for the film are far below expectations.

But we still have a message to get out.  Abusive language and demeaning attitudes toward people with developmental disabilities can't be tolerated in our schools or our community.  We need to keep the pressure on by sending letters to Paramount / DreamWorks, writing letters to the editor of local news papers and telling our friends and neighbors.
