You've Decided!


Thanks to everyone who attended our April 23, 2008 assembly!  Nearly 100 people attended, voiced their opinions, shared their experiences, and cast their votes.  We were especially pleased that so many people committed themselves to work on an action campaign for the recommendations.  Thank you for your participation and dedication!


        

 

 


The results of the voting will now be reviewed by the Advocacy Committe carefully.  Both the number of votes and the number of people committed to working on the recommendation will be considered in the committee's final tally.  This is how the votes added up:


       

RECOMMENDATIONS, VOTES AND COMMITTMENTS
(SI) Increase access to dependable transportation - 40 votes, 16 committments
(Edu) Encourage all school districts to develop outstanding programs addressing the transition from school to adult life - 34 votes, 19 committments
(H) Carry out a pilot project to expand community living options through the pooling of Medicaid Personal Care hours - 31 votes, 16 committments
(SI) Promote includsive education - 30 votes, 14 committments
(Emp) Increase the number of people working over 20 hours per week - 21 votes, 13 committments
(Emp) Increase state funding and incentives for people to become employed - 18 votes, 4 committments
(Emp) Encourage families to envision and support employment for their son or daugher - 16 votes, 8 committments
(SI) Ensure that people have an opportunity to make valued contributions to our community - 12 votes, 7 commitments
(Edu) Increase communication and collaboration between schools and other systems - 12 votes, 7 committments
(Emp) Develop a peer mentoring program that inspires and encourages employment - 7 votes, 4 committments
(SI) Make our community more welcoming - 6 votes, 8 committments
(H) Expand housing opportunities by utilizing private funding - 5 votes, 6 committments
(Edu) Develop a centralized source of information for families that includes all school districts in Spokane County - 5 votes, 1 committment
(SI) Encoruage families to support natural growth and similar expectations for all family members - 4 votes, 5 commitments
(H) Increase HTF funding - 4 votes, 1 committment
(H) Establish an independent living curriculum that would increase the independence and potential of persons - 4 votes, 4 committments
(Edu) Create an educational DVD series made by families for families about birth-to-three and school-age goals, services and resources - 4 votes, 2 committments
(SI) Support people in reaching their full potential socially - 1 vote, 3 commitments
(H) Transition from our current residential support system to a system of self-directed supports with individual budgets - 0 votes, 0 committments
